My name is Leo Boucher, I’m a sailor from Annapolis, Maryland. Please help me continue competing at the highest level and reach my goal of qualifying for the 2028 Olympics Games in Los Angeles .
I grew up sailing Optis with my sister at West River Sailing Club and later transitioned to the Laser Radial (now ILCA 6), training out of Severn Sailing Association in Annapolis. As a teen, I joined U.S. Sailing’s Olympic Development Team and competed in two Radial Youth World Championships, where I gained valuable international experience.
At 18, I moved to the ILCA 7, a more physically demanding rig that pushed me to focus on strength and fitness. Meeting 2016 Olympic gold medalist Tom Burton early in my ILCA 7 career reinforced the importance of total fitness. In 2020, I competed in the Laser World Championship in Melbourne, and in the following years, I won back-to-back North American titles and qualified for the 2021 Youth Pan-American Games.
I recently graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, where I captained the Varsity Sailing Team and won two Inter-Collegiate Singlehanded National Championships. I’m also a two-time Collegiate Sailing All-American Honorable Mention.
As an African American Olympic hopeful, I’m committed to increasing access to sailing for underserved youth. My degree in economics has shown me that true wealth includes the support we give back. After my Olympic campaign, I aim to use my experience and network to help break financial barriers in our sport and inspire the next generation of sailors of color.
